  • Members services

About the organisation
The Association of Australian Medical Research Institutes (AAMRI) is the peak body representing medical research institutes across Australia. Its mission is to achieve positive policy outcomes for its member organisations – and Australian health and medical research more broadly – through advocacy activities, the provision of authoritative advice and information, relationship building, and representing member organisations in areas of shared concern. AAMRI plays a pivotal role in representing the interests of medical research organisations to Federal Parliamentarians and Government agencies.

About the role
The Chief Executive Officer oversees all aspects of AAMRI’s activities, including operations, government and stakeholder relations, member services, and medical research policy and strategy. In addition, this position is responsible for managing the AAMRI budget, ensuring the ongoing financial viability of AAMRI, undertaking the role of Company Secretary, and ensuring compliance with charity and company law.

About you
A highly regarded leader ideally with sector experience in research, science, higher education, government or health in roles encompassing government and stakeholder relations, medical research policy, strategy and member support services. Underpinning your ability to achieve positive policy outcomes for a peak body association is your capacity to quickly understand the important issues facing medical research. You are diplomatic and possess a strong capacity to build enduring relationships with government and are accomplished at driving and implementing innovative strategic plans and policy that meet the needs of members and the wider community. Focused on long-term organisational viability, you have sophisticated corporate governance skills. Critical to your success are your well-honed leadership, engagement, collaboration, analytical and organisational skills. Comfortable at engaging in a variety of forums, you are adept at forming and maintaining professional relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
