AAMRI congratulates The Hon Greg Hunt MP on reappointment as Minister for Health

The medical research institute sector today welcomes the news that The Hon Greg Hunt MP has been reappointed as Minister for Health as part of the re-elected Coalition Government.

Mr Hunt has been a strong supporter of the health and medical research sector in the past, and the Association of Australian Medical Research Institutes (AAMRI) looks forward to working with him in the coming years.

AAMRI President, Professor Vlado Perkovic said it was very pleasing to see the government continuing to recognise the vital importance of medical research to the health system.

“It’s really great to have someone who is so passionate about medical research and what it can do to transform the health system,” said Professor Perkovic.

“The coming years are crucial for the medical research sector. The Government is committed to fully capitalising the $20 billion Medical Research Future Fund, which will provide exciting new opportunities to develop new treatments as well as better health outcomes for patients.”

“We look forward to working with Minster Hunt and the Government during the role out of its recently announced 10-year Medical Research Strategic Plan.”

AAMRI also welcomes Senator the Hon Richard Colbeck to the role of Minister for Aged Care and Senior Australians.

We also congratulate the Hon Karen Andrews on her re-appointment as Minister for Industry, Science and Technology, and The Hon Dan Tehan MP as Minister for Education.

AAMRI would also like to state its appreciation for the work of the Hon Ken Wyatt MP in his previous role as Minister for Indigenous Health and would like to congratulate him on his appointment as Minister for Indigenous Australians.
