Response to the draft National Clinical Quality Registry Strategy

The Australian Government Department of Health has invited feedback on a draft National Clinical Quality Registry (CQR) Strategy. The draft National CQR Strategy aims to drive continuous improvements in the quality and value of health care to achieve better health outcomes for everyone.

AAMRI welcomes the development of the national strategy for CQRs, as there is a significant opportunity for a it to provide overall direction, shared learning between CQRs (both nationally and internationally) and to ensure that Australia has the CQRs it needs to meet the health challenges of the future.

In AAMRI’s submission, we put forward comments on the Strategy in three specific areas relevant to using CQRs for research.

  1. Streamlined and timely access to data
  2. Ongoing prioritisation of CQRs for development and investment
  3. Securing ongoing and stable funding for CQRs

We have also highlighted the need for the role of researchers to be prevalent throughout the draft Strategy. It is researchers that interrogate CQRs and unlock much of their value.
