2019 NHMRC grant outcomes for the Medical Research Institute sector

A new AAMRI analysis on all four new NHMRC new grant schemes from 2019 has shown the medical research institute (MRI) sector had success rates higher than the national success rate.

The four new NHMRC grant schemes introduced in 2019 were – Investigator, Ideas, Synergy and Clinical Trials and Cohorts Studies (CTCS) Grants (1).

The MRI sector was awarded a total of $343.3M in grant funding, about half (47%) the total funding available across all four new NHMRC schemes, including:

  • Over half of the total Investigator Grant funding ($185.6M)
  • Just under half of the Ideas Grant funding ($110.0M)
  • 6 out of 10 available Synergy Grants ($30M)
  • One quarter of the Clinical Trials and Cohorts Studies funding ($18.6M)
